Sacral takes inspiration from nature and the almost otherworldly moments it can produce. Seeking to recreate that same sense of the sublime, I attempt “conjure the visceral”, transforming everyday materials in a creative act of devotion. The sculptures are intimate in scale, akin to shrines or altars dedicated ultimately to the very materials used in their creation. Shaped and clustered, assemblages of wood, fibers, resin, plastic and metal are painted or coated, transcending their components’ original functions. Each altar is purposefully situated within a corresponding landscape, suggesting a relationship to an even greater context and inviting viewers to reflect and draw connections to their own spiritual sensibilities.
